Taliban mock peace delegation

KABUL (SW) – The Taliban mocked the Afghan official delegation comprising more than 200 peace delegates for its size saying the conference in Doha is not a 'wedding party'.

Zabihullah Mujahed, the Taliban spokesman issued a statement on Wednesday in this regard. He said only a limited number of political and national figures from this list are selected for the finalized list and only they shall be participating. “The creators of Kabul list must realize that this is an orderly and prearranged conference in a far-away Khaleeji country and not an invitation to some wedding or other party at a hotel in Kabul”, he said.

He added an intra-Afghan conference in planned for the 20th and 21st April in the capital of Qatar, Doha. “We must clarify that the hosts of this conference have explained in both written and verbal form that no one will be representing the Kabul administration in this conference. If any participant is affiliated with the Kabul administration as was the case in the Moscow conference, they shall partake in a personal capacity and express their own personal views as no one is allowed to represent the Kabul administration”, he added.

A day earlier, after consultations for many days, a 250-member delegation was named to represent Afghanistan in talks between the U.S. and the Taliban in Qatar.

A list issued by the presidency has the names of political figures, Jihadi leaders, civil society activists, women, parliamentarians, youth representatives, officials and local elders. The talks in Doha are likely to commence in three days’ time.
