Taliban leaders travel to Pakistan for consultation

11/04/2019

KABUL (SW) – A well-placed source told Salam Watandar a number of Taliban leaders have travelled to Pakistan for consultation process over the proposed peace process with the Afghan government.

According to the source within the ranks of the Taliban, the insurgents have delayed their proposed spring offensives in the backdrop of the proposed peace talks. The Taliban would wage deadly assaults with the latest round of spring offensives if the peace talks failed to yield results, the source said.

The source said chances are high that the U.S. and the Taliban would reach an agreement in the proposed sixth round of talks in the Qatari capital soon.

SW wished to have the views of the Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahed, in this connection, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, Assadullah Zahiri, spokesman for the High Peace Council, has said the government fully supports all efforts for peace in the country.

The talks among the Afghan officials, the Taliban and U.S. representatives in Doha were originally scheduled for Apr. 14, however, these talks have now been rescheduled for Apr. 19.
