LASHKARGAH(SW):Security sources in southern Helmand province has said that 48 Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel have been killed in Sangin district by the Taliban.
A high-ranking security official in Helmand, who did not wish to be named, told Salam Watandar that the soldiers got killed when the militants attacked a security checkpoint on Friday.
He also said that the Taliban have besieged nearly 80 policemen and soldier in Sangin district.
Locals in the district confirmed the news saying that the security personnel were killed in Sari Kurkhi area.
According to the locals, the Taliban have taken with them some vehicles and weapons taken from the check posts.
Taliban took responsibility for the attack in a message and stated that they have killed tens of security forces and have taken a number of them as captives.
Security officials however have not yet publicly confirmed it.
