CHIGCHARAN (SW): The Taliban militants have killed women and children in the public hospital upon overrunning Taywara district in Ghor province, official said on Sunday.
Iqbal Nizami, spokesman for the provincial police headquarters, told Salam Watandar that the militants stormed the public hospital, killed women and children and set it ablaze. He added that the Taliban are using the civilian population as human shield, and have waged attacks on neighboring Pasaband district.
He confirmed five members of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) have died in clashes with the militants while five others got wounded.
Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in provincial capital Chigharan against the provincial government’s alleged silence over ragging war in the Taywara district. The protesters have urged the government to send fresh troops to push the militants back.
Meanwhile, the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed to have killed 46 ANSF men and leaving over 50 wounded. He rejected reports about killing women and children in Taywara public hospital.
