FARAH CITY (SW): The Taliban militants have killed five members of the Afghan National Police (ANP) in an attack on their outpost in Farah province.

Ghausuddin, governor of the Pusth Rod district, informed Salam Watandar that the militants stormed the outpost last night, and killed five policemen. He said the policemen requested urgent back-up upon coming under the Taliban assault, and lost their lives when their ammunition ended, but no support arrived. The district governor said a total of seven policemen were stationed at this particular post, two of them were on leave when the Taliban stormed it.

The Taliban have taken away all resources of the fallen post with them. Salam Watandar wished to have the views of the provincial security leadership, but repeated calls were not answered.

The Taliban have not commented on this so far.

Nasir Mehri, spokesman for the provincial governor, has only confirmed an armed assault by the Taliban, but did not share details about the casualties inflicted upon the security forces. He said investigation into the incident has been launched.
