DAIKUNDI (SW) – Officials in Daikundi said on Friday the Taliban insurgents killed eight policemen and injured 16 others in armed assault on check posts here.
Syed Anwar Rehmati, the provincial governor, told local media that the insurgents stormed check posts in Pato and Kejran districts this morning. He added additional troops sent from the provincial capital later forced the Taliban to flee.
The governor said clashes between the security forces and the Taliban were underway in the Sejek area of the province, and soon details would be shared about the death toll.
The Taliban have not commented on this matter. The province was long deemed as one of the relatively safer places in the country, but a recent surge in insurgency has harmed peace here.
