KUNDUZ (SW) – At least 40 members of the Afghan security forces have been killed in the Taliban assaults in Kunduz and Baghlan provinces.
Safiullah Amiri, deputy chairman for the provincial council, told Salam Watandar the Taliban attacked the check posts of the army, police and the local pro-government militia last evening. He confirmed 26 soldiers and four local policemen got killed and at least 20 more security forces got wounded in the attacks.
Inamuddin Rehmani, spokesman for the police, has confirmed the attack, but declined to share death toll.
In the meantime, Abdul Rehmani Niazi, deputy spokesman for the 20 – Pamir Brigade, has confirmed that four soldiers got killed and five others got wounded in the attack. He underlined nine Taliban rebels were killed and six more got wounded in the exchange of fire.
Separately, the Taliban also killed 11 local policemen in Baghlan province, a well-placed source told SW on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter. The source said the rebels also took away resources from the check post in this attack in the Central Baghlan district.
Claiming credit for both the assaults, the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed noted in a statement a total of three check posts have been completely overrun. He asserted 40 Afghan forces have been killed in Kunduz and Baghlan.
