Taliban kill 34 security forces in northern provinces

KUNDUZ (SW) – At least 34 security forces got killed in the Taliban’s attacks across Balkh, Takhar, Faryab and Kunduz provinces in the past 24 hours.

Officials and sources told Salam Watandar the insurgents killed at least 15 security forces in the Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz last night. The source, which wished not to be named in the report, said among those killed in this attack included ten security forces associated with the NDS, two soldiers and three local policemen.

Local officials have not commented on it.

In neighboring Balkh province, the Taliban killed eight policemen in attacks on their check posts. The sources said the insurgents carried out the attacks in the Balkh district’s Elimkhail area.

The Taliban also took away arms and ammunition from the check posts.

Elsewhere, the Taliban staged deadly assaults in Takhar province’s Darqad district killing seven security forces. Khalil Aseer, spokesman for the police, said 11 insurgents were also killed in exchange of fire that began early in the morning.

Identical exchange of fire left three Taliban insurgents killed and four others wounded in Faryab province, Abdul Kareem Yourish, spokesman for police, said.

The defense ministry has only confirmed killing of two soldiers in Takhar province. The interior ministry is yet to comment on the casualties suffered by the security forces in the northern provinces.
