MAIMANA (SW): The Taliban militants have killed three civilians and two Afghan National Police (ANP) men in two different incidents in the northern Faryab province.
Syed Luqman, district chief of the Sheren Tagab district told Salam Watandar that the rebels killed three men of a family in front of their family members on Friday evening. According to him, the incident occurred in the district’s Astana Baba area that has been overrun by the Taliban. A security official who wished not to be named in the report has confirmed the incident.
The area was cleared from the rebels after a military operation under the leadership of First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rasheed. It however, fell back to the rebels when the VP left the area and so did the local pro-government armed men.
Relatives of the deceased men claim they were not associated with the law enforcement or any political party. The Taliban have not commented on the incident.
Separately, officials in Sheren Taqab have confirmed that two ANP men have been killed by the rebels on the Andkhoy-Dawlat Abad highway. Syed Luqman said in this regard that the policemen were on their way to withdraw their monthly salaries when the militants captured and killed them in the Jangar area on Friday.
