Taliban kill 22 security forces in Faryab

MAIMANA (SW) – The Taliban rebels have killed 22 security forces in coordinated assaults on check posts in Qaisar district of Faryab province.

District governor, Rehmatullah Qaisari, told Salam Watandar the insurgents stormed check posts in the Erklek part of the district killing 16 members of the Afghan National Army and six security forces affiliated with the local uprising forces against the Taliban. He said no helicopters were sent to rescue the security forces under the siege of the Taliban.

At least 35 Taliban rebels are reported killed and 15 more wounded in this attack.

Taher Rehmani, chairman for the provincial council, has criticized the government for not paying attention to the deteriorating security here. He said some 300 security forces got killed here in the past six months alone.

The first company of the 209 – Shaheen Crops in Faryab has confirmed the attacks, but did not confirm the death toll. Ahmed Jawad, spokesman for the 1st company, told SW the Taliban placed mines all around these check post.

The Erklek area of Qaisar is located close to the Taliban stronghold in Shaakh area of the same district.
