HERAT CITY (SW) – A well-placed security source in Herat told Salam Watandar at least eight policemen got killed and some 16 others got wounded in the Taliban’s attacks in the Gulraan district.
When contacted, Mohammad Arif, a former member of the provincial council, said a number of civilians also sustained losses in this attack.
The provincial governor, Abdul Qayum Rahimi, has confirmed the clashes, but declined to share more details about the casualties.
Claiming responsibility for the attack, the Taliban said in a statement that they have overrun the Gulraan district after killing 12 policemen and injuring eight more.
Meanwhile, the provincial police headquarters, has asserted that ten Taliban insurgents have been killed in these clashes.
Separately, three policemen have been killed in the Taliban’s assault on security check posts around the provincial capital, Farah City, Shah Mehmood Naimi, deputy chairman for the provincial council, confirmed.
