MAIMANA(SW): Local officials in Faryab said that the Taliban have kidnapped five health workers who were working at a hospital in Kohistanat district of the province.

It is said that the kidnapped doctors included a woman and the director of the hospital.

Imam Yar Taqwa, Acting District Chief in Kohistanat, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban abducted the health workers when they were on their way to the district (Kohistanat).

He further said that the health workers were kidnapped from an area known as Qaber-e-Cleaner and have been taken to Hashtumin village in Kohistanat district, which is the hub of the militants.

He further said effort were underway by the tribal elders of the district to release the kidnapped health workers.

Officials at the main hospital have confirmed the news about the abduction but refrained to give further details about it.

The acting district chief also said that the militants have taken control of communication towers in the district since past few days. He said the militants have full control over the towers and they activate and deactivate them at will. The latest abduction is not an isolated incident as two years ago the militants kidnapped 4 female health workers from Qarmqol district in Faryab who were then released after 15 days of captivity.
