Taliban kidnap 50 passengers on Kunduz-Takhar highway

KUNDUZ CITY (SW): A security source who didn’t wish to be named, told Salam Watandar that Taliban have abducted nearly 45 to 47 bus passengers at Kunduz-Takhar highway on Wednesday morning.

He said that the exact number of the abducted passengers is not clear but there is a possibility that the number may rise.

Qasim Jangalbagh, the Police Chief in Kunduz, confirming the news, told Salam Watandar that the militants have abducted a number of passengers from Bagh-e-Amir area in the province.

He said that measures were taken to liberate the passengers and they have managed to release three passengers so far.

Muhammad Yosuf Ayubi, Head of Provincial Council in the province, on the other hand, said that the Taliban have set up checkpoints in Lodin area at Kunduz-Takhar highway and check the passengers at will.

Ayubi stated that the exact number of the kidnaped passengers is not clear but Ayub Salangi, the ex-security deputy to Ministry of Interior Affairs, has twitted that as many as 25 passengers have been kidnapped.

Speaking to Salam Watandar, Amruddin Wali, a member at the Kunduz Provincial Council said that Taliban take the kidnapped passengers to Kobai-wa-Kalam area through Bagh-e-Amir.

It is said that an operation is currently underway to release the captive passengers.
