Taliban issue stern directives for Takhar residents

15/07/2018

TALUQAN (SW) – The Taliban rebels in Takhar province have warned locals against watching TV and women against going out to markets, an official informed on Sunday.

Qayum Qaney, governor of Dasht-e-Qala district, said the Taliban were pushed out from here in an extensive military operation, but the rebels have returned close to the district center to terrorize the population once again. He said the rebels have held gatherings in a number of mosques where local youth was encouraged to join their ranks.

A number of locals, who wished not to be named, said the rebels have also issued stern directions against the use of smartphones by women. They said the Taliban have also directed men shaving their beards to leave areas under their clout within 24 hours.

In the meantime,  Khalil Aseer, spokesman for the provincial governor, said the Taliban have exploited the situation in which the security forces are busy in security for the protest demonstration against the arrest of Nezamuddin Qaisari.

Reliable sources informed SW up to 100 armed Taliban under the command of rebels namely Qari Bismillah, Aman, Zaid, Nizami and Haqqani are active in Dasht-e-Qala district. It is feared the growing clout of the Taliban here pose direct threat to security in neighboring Darqad, Yangi Qala, Khwaja Bahauddin, and Chah Ab districts.
