QALA-I-NAW (SW): Some members of the Badghis provincial council said that after more than 150 villagers joining the Taliban insurgents, the members of the group burnt more than 10 houses of the pro-government locals on Friday.
Farid Akhizai, the deputy head of the provincial council, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban attacking Sina-i-Urdu and Tagab Rabat area of Aab Kamari district torched down the residential houses.
According to him, the people who joined the Taliban, hail from Burj, Sar Bisha and Rigi villages of Qades and Jund districts.
“In last night’s fighting, 2 security forces and 5 Taliban insurgents were killed and several more were injured. But, the exact number of causalities is unknown”, informed Akhizai.
But, security officials in Badghis province stated that the number of civilians has not joined the Taliban yet and the security forces are trying to prevent the joining.
Ghulam Sarwar Haidari, the security chief of provincial police headquarters, assured that forces have been reinforced to Aab Kamari, Qades and Jund districts.
The Taliban, however, claimed on their website that at least 200 locals from 27 villages of the Qades and Jund districts have joined the group with their weapons.
