Taliban insurgents sustain heavy casualties in Nuristan

PARUN (SW): Security officials in eastern province Nuristan have said that during the fighting between the Taliban insurgents and security forces, 40 militants have been killed and 50 more have been wounded in Want Waigal district.

They said that two young girls equipped with suicide vests were also killed during the fighting.

Taliban conducted offensives aimed at capturing the district on Sunday but were rebuffed by the security forces.

A statement released by Selaab 201 Corps said that security forces inflicted heavy casualties upon the militants.

Akramuddin Sareeh, police chief in the province, told Salam Watandar on Sunday that 4 security forces personnel were killed and 9 more were injured during the clashes.

Ehsanullah Fazli, Head of Public Health in Kunar province, told Salam Watandar that as many as 29 injured men have been shifted to the hospitals in the province so far. He did not give any further detail.

A statement released by the militants said that they have captured 11 security check posts. The statement added that the militants have also taken with them three police vehicles.

Zabiullah Mujahid, Taliban’s spokesman, however said that 15 security forces personnel have been killed during the clashes and only 5 militants have been injured.
