Taliban in-fighting leaves 30 dead in Helmand

LASHKARGAH (SW):  Nearly 30 militants have been killed as a result of in-fighting between Mullah Rasul’s fighters and Mullah Mansoor’s in Nawa district in southern province Helmand.

Ahmad Shah Salem, the Police Chief in the district, told Salam Watandar that the in-fighting between the Taliban insurgents flared up on Saturday morning when the fighters associated to Mullah Rasul captured a village in Nawa district.

According to the police chief, the fighting is no longer intense but the sound of intermittent gunshots are still being heard.

A number of residents in the province, told Salam Watandar that Mullah Rasul’s fighters have managed to successfully push Mullah Mansoor’s fighters out of Trikh Nawar area in the district.

According to them, as many as 500 Taliban fighters have pledged allegiance to Mullah Rasul and have urged upon other Taliban fighters to follow their orders.

The fighters linked to Mullah Mansoor’s group, who are led by Abdullah Saber, claimed that they have inflicted heavy casualties on Mullah Mansoor’s fighters.

Mullah Mansoor’s fighters yet to comment in this regard.
