Taliban in-fight in Faryab claims lives

MAIMANA (SW): At least 15 armed rebels and two security personnel died during latest clashes in the restive Faryab province, officials said on Sunday.

Mohammad Raza, Spokesman for the 209-Shaheen Corps said groups of Taliban have been engaged in mutual fight since morning. He told SW a group headed by Mullah Hafizullah and another headed by Mulla Samad were engaged in the fighting.

The Spokesman confirmed death of some 15 rebels due to their mutual fight and the ongoing operation of the security forces. He added six more rebels died as they wanted to plant a landmine in the Qaisar district today.

Meanwhile, two security men have been confirmed dead by local authorities.

Abdul Jameel Siddiqui told SW that an Afghan National Police (ANP) guy lost life last night as he tried to swiftly enter the security base in the night and the headlights of his car was reportedly dim.

The men on duty thought of this as a terrorist attack and opened fire that claimed his life.

Elsewhere, a local source that did not wanted to be named told SW that a National Directorate for Security (NDS)’s car was hit by a friendly fir that claimed the life of an official.
