SHEBERGHAN (SW): Taliban collect taxes ranging from 50 to 250 thousand afghanis in Khanaqa district of Jawzjan province.
Naqibullah Qaderi, the chief of Khanaqa district, told Salam Watandar that the taxes are imposed on land and irrigation. He added that despite military operations in Jawzjan, the insurgent group still remains in villages of the province.
Amruddin Danishjo, a member provincial council, also confirmed the recent imposition of taxes by the Taliban and said this has resulted in the displacement of 1500 families to other provinces.
Mohammad Reza Ghafori, the provincial governor’s spokesman, informed that aside from extorting money from the people, the Taliban also have taken livestock from local. He assured that the security forces will clean up every village from the insurgents.
But, Zabiullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Taliban, rejected the imposition of taxes.
