DAIKUNDI (SW) – The Taliban rebels have held the tribal elders from the Kejran district of Daikundi province as hostage.
Gerat Ali Jawahiri, member of the provincial council, has said three elders of the community went to the Taliban for the release of 36 passengers, however, the rebels allowed only one to go back, and kept the rest as hostage. He said the Taliban are demanding the locals to handover the security check posts of Bala Dasht area in the province to them.
In the meantime, Ali Akbar Natiqi, spokesman for the provincial governor, has acknowledged these reports. He said there have been three sessions of talks with the Taliban on this matter so far.
However, Ghulam Sakhi Ghafori, spokesman for the police headquarters, has discarded these reports. He said the Taliban abducted these men due to regional feuds.
This comes as the Taliban abducted 36 passengers from the main highway upon their return from Kandahar province. The local officials said they are trying to ensure the release of these men via talks.
