FAIZABAD (SW) – Officials in Badakhshan claim the Taliban insurgents have forcefully married at least four minor girls in Nosa district of the province.
The local official told Salam Watandar at least four girls between the age of 12 and 13 years have forcefully been married of to the insurgents. According to Mohammad Ibrahim Qayumi, governor of the district, these incidents took place in Oobghan and Shoryan areas that remain under control of the insurgents.
Aarifa Naveed, head of the provincial chapter of Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, has expressed concerns over the prevailing situation here. She demanded the Taliban to punish the perpetrators in line with the Islamic laws.
Commenting on this, a local religious figure, Muhibullah Sharifi said such forced marriages without the approval of the parents and the brides are void.
The Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahed, has promised to investigate the matter, and punish the perpetrators if found guilty.
