“Taliban fighting’s approach has changed”

HERAT CITY (SW): Officials in western province Herat province informed of a change in Taliban’s fighting approach. They said that Taliban have shifted from fighting face to face to laying roadside bombs over the last three months in this province.

Mahdi Hadid, Head of Security Council at Herat Provincial Council, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban have attacked on police checkpoints on 50 occasions in different districts of the province.

Laying roadside bombs have unprecedentedly increased in the province.

He pointed out that the militants have taken a new approach by laying roadside bombs, which have been dismantled and diffused by security forces.

He said that lack of enough security personnel in the province is the major reason behind the increase roadside bombs.

Abdul Majid Roozi, Herat Police Chief, while confirming the increase in the roadside bombs, said that Taliban have recently focused their destructive activities on Herat City and seek to threaten the security in the province.

He said that they work closely and jointly with security forces to arrest the perpetrators of such activities as soon as possible.
