LASHKARGAH(SW):Members of the Helmand Provincial Council  have said that the Taliban have collected around afn 300 million as tax for electricity, transportation and trade in Mosa Qala and Kajaki districts.

Abdul Majid Akhundzada, a member of Helmand Provincial Council, told Salam Watandar that the militants earn around 500,000.00 Pakistani Rupees in Mosa Qala and Kajaki districts in Helmand province as tax over electricity.

He added that the Taliban have overpowered government in terms of earning income and the government has failed to collect taxes.

He further said that this matter has also triggered intense fighting between Daesh and the Taliban and both sides have lost men as a result.

Admitting the fact that the Taliban were extorting money from the locals, officials in Helmand Energy Department however, said that the amount was not that big. On the other hand, residents in Mosa Qala and Kajaki districts said that the government has not been able to collect the income over the past few years in the related districts.

Esa Khan, a resident in Mosa Qala, told Salam Watandar that the armed militants extort 1000 Pakistani Rupee, which is equivalent to afn 600 from locals each month.

Taliban also stops passengers’ cars and extort money from people in other areas of this province.
