Taliban extorting money from teachers in Jawzjan

SHEBERGHAN (SW): The Taliban militants are forcefully collecting up to 10 per cent from the salaries of teachers in Jawzjan’s Mardiyan district.

A well-placed source informed Salam Watandar the Taliban are extorting salaries from all 172 school teachers in the district. This has sparked concerns about the possible fall of the district to the Taliban.

Mula Amaruddin Danishwar, member of the provincial council, has confirmed these reports.

Meanwhile, Abdul Hai Yashasen, head of the directorate of education, has lamented the fact that despite multiple efforts, the provincial administration has failed to open bank accounts for teachers. He said the issue of extortion might be arising due to ‘hawala’ system of money transfer.

The Taliban have so far not commented on this matter.
