GHOR (SW) – The Taliban have established a narcotics production facility in the Shahrak district of Ghor province, an official said.
According to the district governor, Mohammad Kabiri, the Taliban had recently set up a narcotics production center in the village of Kochi Kungi in the district. The Taliban have also employed a number of children and adolescents there, he said.
Kabiri added that the Taliban are also providing military training for children and adolescents, in addition to establishing the drug production center.
Abdul Basir Qaderi, a member of the Ghor Provincial Council, also said the Taliban had recently brought an advanced drug production facility to the district of the province and were using teenagers for drug production. He warned that if the government did not immediately took actions against the Taliban drug factory, many youngsters will become addicted in the province.
Abdul Samad Amiri, head of the provincial office of the Independent Human Rights Commission, said abusing children in such an illegal activity is against Islamic and human values. He urged all armed opposition groups not to use children as tools.
However, spokesman for the governor, Abdul Hai Khatibi said they have so far received no reports of a Taliban drug production plant in Shahrak district. Local officials and members of the Ghor Provincial Council said the Taliban continue to transport drugs from Badghis and Helmand provinces to the Shahrak district for processing at this factory.
