KABUL, Afghanistan (AA): Najib Danish, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, informed Salam Watandar the Taliban have escaped from Farah city after losing up to 300 fighters in clashes with the security forces.
The MoI spokesman informed the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) are engaged in clean-up operation in Farah since last evening. Without sharing exact figures, he acknowledged dozens of ANDSF men also lost lives and got wounded in clashes in the city.
In the meantime, Abdul Basir Salangi, governor of Farah, has also confirmed that up to 300 Taliban militants are killed in Farah, and dozens of more are wounded. He went on to claim no harm is done to the public offices and civilian population.
However, the local civil society activist, Fareed Hebat, has claimed the Taliban torched the NDS compound and customs office in Farah on Tuesday. He added the Taliban also managed to reach the main prison, but it is not certain if they were able to break it or not.
The Taliban have rejected the claims made by government officials. In a statement, the rebels asserted they left the city after inflicting heavy casualties and losses upon the government.
