KANDAHAR CITY (SW): Local authorities from Kandahar province report that the Taliban has destroyed the Shor Abak drinking water dam on Saturday.
Zia Durrani, provincial police chief, told Salam Watandar that Taliban attacked and destroyed the reservoir around 3 a.m. on Saturday in Shor Abak district of the province. “The Taliban attacked the district crossing the Durand Line of Control from Panj Pai area. The Taliban insurgents folded back after several hours clash with the Border Police Forces”, informed Durrani.
The provincial police chief also said that the water dam was built several years ago by the district residents providing drinking water to at least 2 thousand families.
Kamal-u-Din Qabayili, a tribal elder of Shor Abad, in a conversation with Salam Watandar condemned the attack and urged the parties to the conflict to do no harm to public facilities. “People from remote areas of the district used to carry water for their cattle and themselves from the water dam”, informed Qabayili.
Salam Watandar wished to contact the Taliban on the issue, but to no avail.
Shor Abad district is situated near the Durand Line. The district has been the battle ground between the security forces and the Taliban insurgents.
