GARDEZ (SW): Local officials in the southeastern Paktia province have said that the Taliban have cut-off land routes to the province’s six districts from the provincial capital Gardez.
The Taliban have reportedly taken control of the Andam area in the province’s Mirzaka district that connects six districts with the provincial capital.
Mouhammad Ayub Wardak, head of security at the Paktia police headquarters, has said in this regard that the rebels have planted roadside bombs and have blown-up connecting bridges.
He however, vowed that the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) are busy in the clean-up operation and would soon clear the area.
The locals however, complain that they have been under the siege since yesterday.
Hundreds of passenger and goods carrying vehicles are stuck on the roads on either side of the area under the Taliban’s control. This comes a day after dozens of Taliban stormed the province’s Zurmat district.
