MAIMANA (SW) – The Taliban rebels in Faryab province have confiscated 120 tons of wheat that was meant for needy civilians in remote parts of the country.
Naqibullah Fayeq, governor of Faryab, had said the wheat was sent for civilians living in areas under the control of the Taliban. However, local officials claimed today the wheat has been confiscated by the Taliban.
According to the locals, the 120 tons of wheat was meant for a number of districts, including Kohistan, but the rebels confiscated it.
Abdul Ahad Elbeg, member of the provincial council, said only few district have got the aid, but the aid has not been delivered in Sheren Tagab, Dawlat Abad and Kohistan districts. He said many residents of the province have complained about the Taliban snatching the aid.
The Taliban have not commented on this, but locals claim such incidents have occurred in the past as well.
