PUL-I-ALAM (SW): Locals in the eastern Logar province have stoned an alleged Taliban commander to death over charges of raping a woman in the Kharwar district.

The incident took place in the district’s Apa Khan village where an alleged Taliban commander forcefully made his way into a home and raped a 30-year old woman. Reports suggest that the locals nabbed the alleged rapist and stoned him to death. A local named Painda Gul told Salam Watandar that dozens of locals overpowered the alleged rapist and killed him.

Samar Gul Rashid, district chief for Kharwar, while confirming the incident, said that the man raped a women at his brother’s in-laws and was later caught and publically killed by the locals. The district chief added that the law enforcement officials have gone to the area to investigate the matter in details. “The locals told me that last night Hassan Gul, resident of Shaikhan village, was caught raping a woman, he was later beaten to death by the relatives of the victim and the locals”.

Commenting on this, Mohammad Haleem Fidayee, the provincial governor said that the alleged rapist was a Taliban commander who forcefully raped the woman. He pronounced the rape as an inhuman and un-Islamic act, and promised to further probe the incident.

The Taliban are yet to comment on this incident. The locals have vowed to also kill the woman if she was found guilty as well.
