MAIMANA (SW) – Officials in Faryab have claimed the Taliban are collecting payments for electricity bills in parts of the province.
Sebghatullah Silab, deputy chairman of provincial council, told Salam Watandar the Taliban extort electricity bill payments in Dawlat Abad and Khwaja Sabzposh districts. Abdul Razaq Kakar, district governor of Dawlat Abad, has confirmed these claims. He added the Taliban have not allowed the local leaders to meditate.
Meanwhile, Said Abdul Majid, chairman for Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, the power utility in the province, has clarified the Taliban have not extorted the bill payments, but have warned residents to hand over the payment to them.
The insecurity at Maimana-Mazar highway has forced many residents of Dawlat-Abad and Khwaka Sabzposh to pay for electricity even without benefiting from it.
