KABUL-MAIDAN SHAHR (SW): Authorities of Wardak province have said, clashes between security forces and Taliban insurgents have resulted in the closing of Kabul and Kandahar highway on Tuesday.
The closure of highway has stranded hundreds of passengers. Abdul Rahman Mangal, the spokesman for the governor of Wardak, told Salam Watandar that in the early hours of Tuesday morning Taliban insurgents set up checkpoints for vehicles in Sayed Abad area of the province, security forces attacked the Taliban resulting in the closure of the highway. “Heavy fighting is still ongoing between the security forces and the Taliban insurgents”, informed Mangal.
The spokesman added that 2 insurgents are killed, but he did not give details of security forces’ casualty. The Taliban insurgents have not commented on the clash to media yet.
Local authorities in Wardak province have assured people that within a few hours more the highway will open.
