PUL-I-ALAM (SW): The Taliban militants have forcefully closed down all schools in Surkh Aab, the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s hometown in south eastern Logar province.

Shah Pur Arab, spokesman for the provincial education department told Salam Watandar that among the closed schools included five schools for boys and three for girls.

Arab added that hundreds of rebels stormed this village in the Mohammad Agha district, and threatened the teachers and students against attending the schools. He noted that the local government and tribal elders are busy resolving the issue.

“We had eight schools in Surkh Aab district but all of them have been closed down by the Taliban but we are trying our best to reopen these schools”, he said.

As per his knowledge, more than two thousand students are enrolled in these schools.

Matiullah Sadiq, the district police chief in Mohammad Agha, said in this regard that the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) would not tolerate such move, and would swiftly ensure peaceful reopening of the closed schools.

The students however, are worried about the prevailing situation in the area. The reason behind closing down the schools is unknown but the Taliban in the past declared that they would close down schools if the government kept a ban on motorcycles in the province.
