GARDEZ (SW) – A deadly Taliban-claimed suicide car bombing has killed at least three security forces in Paktia province, an official said on Tuesday.
Lutfullah Kamran, the provincial security chief, told Salam Watandar that the Taliban attacked a public security check post with a suicide car bombing followed by armed assault. According to him, the incident took place in the morning. He added that three security forces were killed and five others were wounded in the attack.
But, officials at the public hospital said 11 people, including nine security personnel and two civilians, including a woman, were taken to the hospital from the scene.
Paktia security officials say two of the attackers entered the building of the public protection unit after the car bomb exploded. According to officials, the attackers were killed minutes later.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming that heavy casualties were inflicted on security forces stationed in the area. This comes as the intra-Afghan talks for peace are on the cards.
