MAIMANA (SW): Taliban burned 13 security checkpoints in Ghormach district of Faryab province on Sunday night.
Local officials in Ghormach district, confirming the news, said that after the capture of the district, the Taliban burned at least 13 police checkpoints, 3 tanks and other government facilities at night.
According to the Gormach officials, police checkpoints include police and military outposts.
Abdullah Waqif, the chief of Ghormach district, who along with some security forces have been in siege of the Taliban in a military camp near the fallen district told Salam Watandar that the Taliban had left the district center after military air strike started on Sunday night, but the Taliban have returned back to the district center from their hideouts on Monday morning.
According to him, so far, due to the closure of routes, the military operation for retaking of Ghormach has not started.
Local officials in Faryab said that the Taliban have suffered causalities by the air strikes, but the exact figures are not clear.
Qari Yosuf Ahmadi, a spokesman for the Taliban, in a call to the media, affirmed the capture of 13 security checkpoints in Ghormach by the group, but did not say anything about burning the checkpoints.
