KABUL (SW): The Taliban militants cannot orchestrate massive and planned attacks without the support of the foreign state agencies, the Presidential Palace (Arg) has said in connection with the Friday’s attack on the 209-Shaheen Corps in Balkh.
Shah Hussain Murtzawi, spokesman for the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani addressed a presser on the incident in Kabul on Sunday. Promising a thorough investigation into the carnage, he said Afghanistan in engulfed in a global conflict, and the findings of the investigations would be made public soon.
Up to 135 soldiers are confirmed dead while around 60 more are reportedly wounded in the attack on the Corps headquarters on the outskirts of Mazar-i-Sharif city on Friday.
The Presidential spokesman stressed there is a strong will against the terrorism in the country. Murtazawi stressed best quality healthcare has been ensured for the wounded soldiers, and compensation along with promotion in ranks for those who lost their lives. “The President has directed for comprehensive investigations of the attack from the security and technical point of view”, he added.
Meanwhile, a number of senators in Sunday’s session blamed the leaders of the National Unity Government (NUG) for the attack. Mohammad Alam Ezedyar, deputy speaker of the house urged the government to obtain death sentences from the Supreme Court for all the Taliban detainees.
