17/03/2017

KABUL (SW): A suicide car bombing followed by the Taliban’s group attack on a military base in Khost province has killed at least one soldier and three attackers.

A security official informed one Afghan National Army (ANA) man has died and at least seven more got wounded in this attack. Fighting is said to be underway. Fazl Khoda, spokesman for the ANA’s 203-Thunder Corps, said three attackers have been shot dead before they could enter the base. While claiming responsibility for the attack, the Taliban spokesman Zabehullah Mujahid has said ‘scores’ of soldiers have been killed. In a message, he said up to 70 Afghan soldiers are stationed in this base in the Sabro district which has been attacked.

This Friday morning attack in Khost took place a week after the security forces thwarted an attack on the main military base in the provincial capital Khost city used both by the Afghan and the U.S. soldiers. In a previous attack on this military base on 30 December 2009, nine people including seven agents of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) were killed in a suicide attack carried by a Jordanian militant associated with al-Qaeda.
