Taliban attack ANP directorate in Lashkargah

01/10/2016

LASHKARGAH (SW): Directorate of the Afghan National Police (ANP) in southern Helmand’s provincial capital has been under the Taliban attack since Friday.

Salam Watandar correspondent in the province has reported that the rebels have infiltrated in villages near the third ANP directorate in the provincial capital, and are aiming at it.

Umar Zwak, spokesman for the provincial governor however, claimed that at least 28 militants have been killed with the support of the Afghan Air Force (AAF) on Friday. He added that sufficient presence of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) has denied the Taliban to overrun Lashkargah.

The markets in Lashkargah are deserted as the locals, fearing deadly clashes, have either moved to safer areas or are hiding in homes. The Taliban had warned the locals about attacks.

Shah Wali, a member of the Afghan Border Police (ABP) stationed at the Bolan area near the third ANP directorate in Lashkargah, told Salam Watandar that situation is under control. He added that the militants from Naad-e-Ali and Baba Je districts are involved in attack on Lashkargah.

The airpower of allied forces is also here to support the ANSF against the adventures by the Taliban.
