KABUL (AA): The Taliban in Afghanistan have announced yet another year of fighting dubbed as ‘Mansouri Offensives’ named after their second-slain leader Mullah Mansour.
In a message posted on the Taliban’s website, the armed rebels vowed to ‘defeat the invaders and its puppet regime’. The announced offensives are characterized in two different categories with one focusing on the military aspects such as assaults on military and civilian installations associated with the government, and the second one on so-called ‘institutional building’ in areas under the control of the Taliban.
The Taliban’s latest announcement of yearly offensives comes exactly a week after the militants stormed a regional headquarters of the Afghan National Army (ANA) in the northern Balkh province, and killed up to 144 soldiers. Subsequently, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has blamed the insurgents of 62 per cent of civilian casualties – 1,353 civilian casualties (447 dead and 906 injured) in the first three months of the 2017 alone.
