FARAH CITY (SW): The Taliban are engaged in deadly clashes with security forces only a kilometer away from the governor’s office in Farah, locals informed on Tuesday.
According to the locals, the rebels have torched the NDS compound in the city, and are now eyeing to overrun the main prison, police headquarters and the governor’s office.
Locals informed, the Taliban have erected check posts where identity cards of the citizens are checked, and those having registration stamps from the electoral commission for forthcoming polls are persecuted. It was also informed no security forces have arrived in the city, except few flights of helicopters.
Jawed Tabish, a local civil society activist, expressed fears if additional troops are not dispatched soon, the city might completely fell to the Taliban, and all forces inside might get killed.
Jamila Amini, a member of the provincial council, informed the Taliban have overrun a number of areas in the city. She discarded reports about the NDS compound being overrun.
She also confirmed reports about the Taliban persecuting locals after entering the city.
