KUNDUZ CITY (SW) – The Taliban rebels have abducted dozens of passengers from Kunduz province, an official confirmed.
Safiullah Mahzon, director security at the provincial police headquarters in Kunduz, informed the passengers from three busses have been taken away by the Taliban from the Khan Abad district of the province. He said efforts are underway to ensure release of the passengers who were on the way to the capital Kabul from Takhar province.
According to him, four women passengers have been freed while the rest of 115 passengers remain in the Taliban captivity.
Zabihullah Mujahed, the Taliban spokesman, has said the buses have been abducted following reports about presence of the security personnel in them. He added civilians would be freed after checking of their identities.
This comes as the Afghan president, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, announced a conditional three-month ceasefire across the country effective from Monday.
