MAIMANA (SW): Taliban have abducted some 82 passengers from Qaraqul district in northern Faryab province on Wednesday.
A security official who didn’t wish to be named told Salam Watandar that the militants have released 25 out of 82 passengers so far.
Mohammad Hanif, security commander at Mazar-Maimana road, however said that the number of passengers kidnapped by the militants reached to 65 people and 40 passengers have been released so far.
He said that the kidnapped passengers have been shifted to Jangal area, which is under the Taliban control and they would try to do everything to set them free.
He added that in the fighting between the militants and security forces, 3 militants have been killed and 3 more have been injured.
Zahir Rahmani, Head of Faryaab Provincial Council, confirmed the news and said that this is the first time such incident has occurred there.
Maimana and Jawzjan routs, which is located on Kabul-Balkh Highway is one of the most restive and insecure routes in the north of the country.
Taliban have not commented about the incident yet.
