KANDAHAR CITY (SW): At least 30 passengers have been abducted by the Taliban on the Kandahar – Uruzgan highway, an official has confirmed.
Dost Mohammad Nayab, spokesman for the governor of Uruzgan, informed Salam Watandar that the armed Taliban blocked the highway last night, and started checking cars and busses in the Surkh Bet area. He said the Taliban have taken away at least 30 passengers with them, and their whereabouts are not known yet.
The governor’s spokesman said all passengers abducted by the Taliban are civilians. He said efforts are underway to ensure release of these passengers via mediations through local elders.
The Taliban have not commented in this regard so far.
