SHEBERGHAN (SW) – The Taliban have abducted at least 30 civilians in Jawzjan for attending a funeral of a slain police officer here.
According to the local officials, the incident took place in the Faiz Abad district when men attending funeral prayers of the Afghan Local Police commander, Allah Beran, were encountered by the insurgents.
Abdul Wahed Wajdan, provincial police chief, has confirmed the incident. He said one of Beran’s brothers is among those abducted by the Taliban.
The provincial council member, Sher Mohammad Noor, said those abducted by the Taliban are relatives of the ALP commander. The men are reportedly taken away to the Khanqa district.
The Taliban have not commented on it.
