SAR-E-PUL (SW) – The Taliban have abducted 25 passengers from the main Sar-e-Pul – Balkh highway, an official confirmed on Tuesday.
Syed Asadullah Danish, deputy chairman of the Sar-e-Pul provincial council, said these passengers were on their way from Balkhab district of the province to Mazar-e-Sharif city when a rebel commander, Mawlawi Mehdi Mujahed, abducted them.
The deputy chairman of the provincial council said the rebels left women, children and elderly while taking away the rest of men with them to the areas under their control.
Meanwhile, Zabihullah Amani, spokesman for the provincial governor, has confirmed the incident. He said latest information about the abducted men is not available.
The Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahed, has rejected their involvement in this incident.
