GARDEZ (SW) – The Taliban rebels have abducted 22 passengers from the Kabul – Paktia highway.
Raz Mohammad Mandozay, police chief for Paktia, informed Salam Watandar the incident took place last evening close to the provincial administration compound in Gardez. He said the police acted promptly to free six abductees.
He said the police avoided using massive force fearing civilian casualties as the rebels took away the passengers using them as shields. The police chief said there is no government employee among the abductees.
Earlier this week, the rebels abducted nine passengers from Parwan and 11 people from Bamyan province.
