Tale of the ‘champion martyr’ of the army

JALALABAD (SW) – Young soldier Mohammad Omar wrestled down a suicide bomber in Jalalabad on Sunday to save the lives of many countrymen.

The young soldier only got engaged last year. Omar was serving at a security check post close to the Behsud Bridge in Jalalabad city when he spotted a bomber. The determined and brave soldier rushed to wrestle him away from the crowd before the attacker blew his explosives killing Omar and three more soldiers.

The steadfast soldier had on his back five years of experience in the armed forces during which he served in treacherous conditions all over the country.                                                                                                                                                                                

The 23-year-old was youngest among four brothers, but the only breadwinner for the whole family. Omar’s father is also a retired soldier.

His brother, Mohammad Haqyar, told Salam Watandar the family hails from Laghman’s Alengaar district. Haqyar said Omar was adored by the whole family and even neighbors for his good manners. He said the family is devastated to lose Omar, but is proud over his brave act to save the lives of so many countrymen.

His fiancé could not bear the tragic news of his unfortunate death, and is still unconscious in the Mehtarlam Hospital.

One of his fellow soldiers,  Rizwanullah, said Omar also wished for peace to prevail in the country. The social media users are celebrating Omar as ‘Champion Martyr’, and have launched campaign to collect financial support for his family.
