Takhar: Telecom firms suspend services during night

19/05/2019

TALUQAN (SW) – It has been three days since telecommunication services in Takhar province are suspended from evening till early in the morning.

It is said this suspension began after the Taliban abducted four employees of the Etisalat telecommunication firm here. Charging these telecom workers for not obeying the Taliban terms, the insurgents also confiscated their tools.

A number of Takhar residents told Salam Watandar the rates for top-up cards for state-owned Salam telecommunication firm have surged after this incident.

Two such Takhar residents, Assadullah and Naem Rahimi, blamed the government for poor management in this regard.

Though, the Afghan Wireless telecom firm continues to provide services day and night, but one of its employees told SW this firm would also suspend services in the night.

According to the officials, these telecom firms are deliberately suspending their services in the evening upon directives from their senior management.

Ghafoor Talash, provincial director for the directorate of communication and information technology, said the telecom firms have been warned against suspending their services in the night.

Hashmat Muslim, provincial police chief, said there is no threat posed to the telecom firms that would force them to suspend services in the night.
