KUNDUZ CITY (SW): Residents in northern Takhar province have warmly embrased thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from neighrboing Kunduz province.
Rages of war have left many men, women and children to flee Kunduz and take refuge in neighbouring Takhar. Rozi Bai, a native of Takhar’s Baharak district spends the whole night baking bread along with his wife for the needy IDPs. In the morning, he personally goes into the camps and distributes it among the war-weary country mates.
“I pray that our country comes out of this war and destruction. It is unfortunate to see countrymen not helping each other, I want everyone to help each other and build a peaceful country”, he told Salam Watandar.
Sunatullah Taimori, spokesman for the provincial governor, has said in this regard that the local authorities in Takhar were concerned about ways and means to help the IDPs but the generosity of the local people provided them with a relief. He added that over 50, 000 of IDPs from Kunduz residing in various camps have been provided with aid. Taimori noted that the local businessmen in Takhar have contributed AFN 1.5 million for the support of IDPs.
Waheed Baktash, a local civil society activist, underlined that they are very serious about the problems faced by the displaced people of Kunduz.
