TAKHAR (SW) – Protesters demonstrating against alleged electoral fraud in Takhar on Tuesday closed down the provincial administration compound in Taluqan.
Two such protesting Wolesi Jirga (lower house) candidates, Syed Jalil Syedzada and Faizullah Baig, said on the occasion widespread rigging has taken place in the polls. They demanding stern actions against the Independent Election Commission staff, and separation of biometric verified votes from the rest.
Urging the protesters to continue with the agitation, they claimed a number of individuals have traded with the peoples’ votes in Takhar. The IEC office in Taluqan remains closed due to the protest.
However, Jawaad Hijri, spokesman for the provincial governor, told Salam Watandar that the provincial administration has performed its duty, but it cannot interfere in IEC affairs.
This is the third time protesters in Takhar have taken to the streets against alleged electoral fraud.
